Welcome to the Ten Thousand Bioplastic Bottles Project.

Hi,

My name is Ivan. I’m one of a team of three behind Cfree, an ambitious Sydney startup that has spent the past three years creating green projects that are economically self-sustaining. We believe this is the way of the future. Check out our site for more background.

This project centres on bioplastics.

Did you know traditional plastics, from your strawberry punnet to the water bottle in your bag, are refined from crude oil, a polluting, finite fossil fuel which is mined anywhere from Saudi Arabia to the oil-stained Gulf of Mexico? It’s then transported across the planet (using more fossil fuels) and eventually makes money for the giant industrial conglomerates who are spending millions to stop governments initiating clean green alternatives.
Did you know there are 150+ billion plastic bottles discarded yearly, costing us billions of dollars in clean up costs, that are passed onto you?

There is a better way. Reusable bioplastic bottles made from non-food cellulose crops, while providing manufacturing jobs here in Australia.

Bioplastics look and feel similar to petroleum-based plastics and work just as well, except that they are 100%  plant-based and don't contain harmful chemicals.

Cfree aims to start a movement to replace every plastic object on Earth with a bioplastic equivalent.
 
We have the technology and materials to do this, but we need to convince major manufacturers and retailers to switch to bioplastics. More importantly, we aim to demonstrate entrepreneurs that it is possible to develop and manufacture sustainable products from bioplastics locally. To do this, we can’t just rely on their goodwill – we need to show them the switch will be popular and profitable.

Welcome, then, to our launch project. You can help us produce and sell 10,000 of our Australian designed and made bioplastic drink bottles to demonstrate the idea is viable. It’s hard to argue against success!

So now we need seed capital of $5000 to help pay for the initial production run.

But I've already got a plastic drink bottle. How is this better?

Most of us either buy bottled water or carry a plastic drink bottle around (or both) - leave on the sun and chemicals such as BPA leech from your petroleum product. Very little consideration is given to human health, but rather cheapest resource is the key driver here.

With a Cfree bioplastic drink bottle, that is not the case. Our bottles are plant based and tests showed no harmful chemicals leeching from our plant-based product. Further, no need for ocean drilling, spills or resource-based conflicts. 

Our 0.5L bottles have both a drinking valve and a wide mouth for fast drinking and filling, and easy cleaning.

You'll be doing your little bit to help the planet without it costing you a fortune and without having to drastically alter your lifestyle.
